Sitting at a Berlin pavement café on a sunny Sunday morning, the 4 people at the next table are discussing religions, referring to "Catholics", "Protestants", "Muslims", "Jews" and a "wonderful meeting of all religions" that is coming up somewhere soon.
And I'm thinking, "What nonsense!"
"People" is the appropriate common descriptive term.
"Catholic", "Protestant", "Muslim", "Jewish", etc are simply constructed names for constructed beliefs.
Religions don't meet. People do.
Using such terms to describe a group of people necessarily excludes all others. It's divisive.
We are surrounded by the conflict they cause, and have been for hundreds of years.
The barriers we need to take down are those in our minds.
